I was the M-div DCPO and loved these battle lanterns. A word of advice from one who regularly took these things apart and rebuilt them: don't over-tighten the brass screws that hold the handle onto the body. The brass bushings the screws go into can be pulled out of the body if the screws are tightened too much. You should change the batteries every six months to a year to avoid battery acid leak.

We had these all over my ship, and they are nearly indestructible. Heavy enough to stay put during high seas, and bright enough to tick off the neighbors on a dark night. Wide, room-filling beam. Lasted several hours even on cheap military batteries. Never thought I would get a chance to own one.
