Home > Car and Truck Covers > Car Cover Care

Superweave car covers may be washed using most home washing machines and dryers. Use a powder-type detergent WITHOUT bleach. Wash the cover using the "Normal" or "Permanent Press" cycles in cold or warm water. DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER! Run the cover through two rinse cycles - it is important that all the detergent be removed. The cover can be dried in most home dryers. Use the "Permanent Press" setting. DO NOT use fabric softener. If your cover becomes soiled in a few spots, light brushing with a soft rag will remove most dirt.

A home washer is not large enough to accommodate your car cover and provide proper cleaning. Covers should be taken to a commercial laundromat and washed in large automatic washers without agitator. Use a quarter cup of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner (no soap or detergent). Wash your cover using the "Normal" or "Permanent Press" cycles in cold or warm water. DO NOT WASH IN HOT WATER! Run the cover through two rinse cycles - it is important that all the cleaner be removed in order to preserve the cover's water resistance. Air dry the cover. DO NOT put the cover in an automatic dryer (the fabric can melt). DO NOT dry clean covers. Another way to clean dust from the inside or outside of the cover is to put it on your vehicle and hose it off. To clean the inside, put the cover on inside-out, rinse off and then leave on to dry. To clean the outside, put the cover on normally, rinse and then leave on to dry.

Note: BEFORE USING A COVER, here are some Important Warnings:

TOWING – Car Covers are not designed for used when towing. Serious damage can occur to the cover and the paint surface of the vehicle may also be damaged. If you use a cover for towing, you do so at your own risk

REPAINTED VEHICLES – Use of a cover on any recently painted surface may cause damage to that surface! If your vehicle has been repainted, check with the painter or body shop on the specifics of how and when you can use a cover.

HIGH WIND AREAS – When using a cover in high wind areas (and for prolonged storage), use the loops and rope provided to securely pull the cover tight under the center of the car. This should be done even if the optional lock and cable is being used. A cover is not designed to replace a garage and should be checked for flapping in high winds. If wind gets under the cover, it can cause it to work loose and come off the vehicle.

FREEZING WEATHER – In very rare cases when a heavy rainstorm is followed by an extreme temperature drop to below freezing, it is possible for a cover to become frozen to a layer of ice created between the vehicle body and the cover. Do not attempt to remove the cover if this happens. If it is necessary to remove the cover, we recommend pouring warm water over the vehicle and slowly removing the cover, taking care to inspect the surfaces of both the cover and the vehicle during the removal process. Stop immediately if you encounter resistance – the ice has not been melted completely and you must pour more warm water over the vehicle.

HAZING OF WINDOWS AND PAINT – Airborne pollutants may be deposited on the windows or paint while a vehicle is being driven or when parked uncovered. These deposits may become smeared and create a haze when the cover is used. The haze can be wiped off with a damp cloth or washed off with water.
